God is being glorifed through our work in Honduras via the TV News! Many people have witnessed what has been done through tv coverage on our local fox station in Tampa. Anchor Mark Wilson contacted Keith and came on a Wednesday evening speaking to 10-12 teens for 2 and 1/2 hours. He then cut this into a 3 minute segment which generated lots of positive press. Then last week when Hurricane Felix was threatening Honduras they came and spoke with Mauricio Perdigon and Mikey Marrs. These can be viewed by logging on to www.myfoxtampabay.com and then putting the title Mission of a Lifetime in the search box, and then for the hurricane coverage Hope and Help for Honduras.
Gabriel Garcia's interview was the top story of the Spanish station Univision, but we were not able to get that online. Looking forward to another great trip!!!

Hi to my family!! We are all so excited to be coming home, but we will really miss the people here. Mom, please tell Alexa that it is H O T hot, and i thought of her, it made me laugh. Amazing Love - Award Winning Design
Good morning to all,
This will be my last posting from Honduras. Our last work day in Honduras was started with everyone traveling up the mountain to 4 different work sites to complete 4 additional homes. As usual, we met some obstacles, but with God's help we were able to provide at least 20 more people with shelter before leaving this beautiful country. After dinner, we had a final devotional to reflect on our time spent here and what has touched each of us. Keith shared with the group that both the liason here in Honduras that helps to organize the logistics with Keith and the owner of the hotel were quite impressed with our group. There is no other group that is as productive as our group.
We have witnessed the most absolutely incredible thing while here in Honduras. God has designed our hearts with the amazing ability to grow. As we leave a little piece of our hearts with the family of the new home we built, the child who was taught at VBS, fed a school lunch, prayed with for healing at the hospital, given a stuffed toy, bubbles to blow, food to eat, clothing to wear, provided running water at their school, a classroom to learn about God, a New Testament bible to read, our hearts don't shrink, but actually continue to grow. As we give up a piece of our heart, God replaces it with more so we can continue to share our talents, compassion and love. It's an award winning design!

Lessons of Life from Honduras
Good morning,
Everyday is packed with good works, but yesterday can be held up with the best of the best of days! One work crew headed out early to the village of Villanueva and built a home yesterday. This home was built for a father who had secured a job here in Tegus but had no home for him to move his handicapped children. He did not know that this home was being built for him when he left for work yesterday. Imagine the joy and disbelief when he returned yesterday to see a home for his family. The team left before he returned from work, so we can only imagine what feelings this father must have experienced. It doesn't take much imagination though, does it?
The remainder of our crew loaded our two buses with approximately 200 bags of food and an additional 175 bags of clothing. This required each person carrying bags up the hill where the buses are parked everyday and then returning for another trip until they were all carried up the hill. A human chain was formed once at the top of the hill to load them onto the buses. This was accomplished without complaint or moaning, but instead with willing hands and feet, knowing what a blessing was being carried with each step. Our first stop was to unload 70 bags of food and clothing with Estaban (the preacher at Union), for him to distribute to church families. We than traveled to a very remote place on the mountain that a work crew had previously built a home earlier in the week. Those on the work crew certainly remembered the requirements to reach this remote location, because they had to carry all their lumbar down this very steep and rocky road to build this house. We all grabbed two bags of either clothing or food and distributed one of each to every household that was occupied. Each home was very appreciative of these gifts to help meet their basic needs. Several homes gave witness to the abject poverty in this place. One very small home had 10 children whose mom hiked up this road everyday to sell tortillas to try and feed her family. Another home (if you could call a 5 x 5 tin structure a home) housed a very old, sick Honduran woman who was existed in the most abject poverty witnessed my most here. Words can not express the sorrow of the team members who stopped to deliver the food and to pray with this woman. It's not surprising to hear that one handed her all his money on him and why they all returned tearful to the bus. It's hard to reconcile how we are so blessed by the mere fact of where in the world we were born, while others live in these abject poverty conditions. We can not try and figure this out; we have to live in the knowledge that God does not forget the weary, the poor and the downtrodden.
We than traveled to the Jesus Statue which I'm sure you will eventually see many pictures from this site. It is located in a beautiful park located at the top of the mountain. This very large statue (someone else will have to tell you how high it is), can actually be viewed from our terrace at the hotel. We then travelled to a very special place - the blind school for children. What a tremendous joy it was to spend 2 hours with these children. You can see from the newly uploaded pictures how much we all enjoyed this experience. We took turns singing to each other and it was beautiful to listen to these sweet voices. We played soccer with them and yes, our blindfolded crew looked pretty pathetic, stumbling around and over each other. I lost count of the score, but I know it was a "bagel" score for you soccer fans and I don't think our group came close to one scoring opportunity. This place touched all of our hearts. How can one not be moved by the open and infectious laugh and smile of these children that come so willingly to your side, crawl up into your lap, touch your face and kiss you with their lollipop sticky lips. You may wander how did most of us non-fluent Spanish speakers communicate with these children without sight, when we have relied mostly on gestures and pantomime up to this point. We learned that the language of hugs, touch and laughter is universal. I know that my heart was touched and ached as this sweet 6 year old girl wrapped her arms around my neck to say good-bye. Just one more reason why to start planning for a return trip next year.
We returned to our hotel to freshen up and enjoy "Banquet Night". We were treated to ribs, mashed potatoes, rice and coleslaw for dinner and then proceeded to the terrace for the prestigious awards for various categories such as Worst Joke Teller, Best Interpreter and the SeeWee Award. Ask your children about the amusing tales behind the recipients. Good laughs were had by everyone as the MC's of David and Richard presented the coveted awards (paper plates)! Much to every one's surprise, we had a mariachi band join us for an hour and provide us with great music! It was off to bed to get ready for this last day in Honduras. We will end the trip today like it was started, with everyone in the group breaking up into either 3 or 4 groups (depending on the amount of lumber), to build our last homes. With the completion of these homes, we will have built more homes this trip with the fewest number of people. God is so good! Have a glorious day, whereever you are.

Time Zones and Faith
Good morning to all from Honduras,
Yesterday was such a great day. 3 construction crews headed to a new village called Villanueva to build 2 houses and a classroom. There are always unique challenges to overcome with each site, but yesterday, all 3 sites were finished ahead of schedule. The classroom building is to be used for bible classes at the school where approximately 250-300 children attend school. It was quite fun to have all the children in their school uniforms watching us so intently as we scurried around, dodging raindrops to complete this classroom for them. Their smiling, intent faces were all we needed to keep working hard to complete the building for them. The siding used for the walls and floor was different than what we had been using, so we had to switch to the 3" nails instead of the 2" nails. For some, this is not a noticeable change in procedure. For otheres however, we really felt the muscle burn quickly. Especially when you are hammering in a board over your head, balanced on a rickity step ladder with someone holding your back for balance! Another group traveled again to Mololoa to serve lunch and to do a VBS for the children and another small group visited the hospital again. All of these acts of serving bring such cherished smiles and enormous gratitude from the Hondurans.
It does not take one long once in Honduras to realize that "Honduran Time" is much different then the time you and I operate by. You can forget your watch or any specific plans you have made because they rarely coincide. If you ask someone a why question about timing or why something is being done a certain way, 99% of the time you will hear, "That's Honduran time or You are in Honduras". Most of us try to run our lives on our own time schedule. There are really two different time zones going on when it comes to correlating God's will and our experience. God exists in another time zone entirely. in GOT (God's Own Time), His will is always done and He takes into account the times zones of everyone. There are many time zones as there are many people, and that means they can often be in conflict. But with God there is never any conflict. There is only one GOT and as far as He is concerned, everything is right on schedule. We are witnessing daily that when we pray here for a successful and productive day and we run to challenges, that God is hearing our prayers. We move ahead, believing that in GOT, it will be answered.
Today is going to be an action packed day and we will be having an early start with our morning devotional occuring at 7:00 a.m. before breakfast so that we can get an early start. There will only be one construction crew today while the majority of us travel to give out food, clothing and vitamins in the morning. In the afternoon, we will be visiting the blind school, a favorite site for all.
This is our second to the last day and we all are feeling the mixed emotions of the desire to return home to see our loved ones while trying to leave a little bit of our hearts here. Thank your for your prayers as always. May all of us have a productive day while doing the Lord's work.

The activities that we do everyday may start to sound repetitive, but great works are being accomplished daily. 3 more houses were completed yesterday, some in very difficult locations too! A group traveled to Mololoa to help cook and serve lunch and to hand out vitamins to 200 families. These 150 children in this village are provided a hot meal everyday, which is a non-profit supported work. The group also finished digging the trench for the water pipe that will provide running water to the church and school. The pipe was being laid by the end of the day yesterday! Another group packaged 50 lbs of vitamins in individual ziplock bags for a one year supply of vitamins to each recipient. They then traveled to the hospital for another visit with the children and their families to pass out juice boxes, toys and New Testament Bibles to the adults. The families are so appreciative of our efforts to bring a smile to their child's face, even if it is for just a moment. We traveled in pairs around the various wards and as Alex and I went together from room to room. I was amazed at how receptive the families were when Alex would ask before leaving if we could pray with them. Everyone would immediately agree and we would all stand in a circle, holding hands as Alex prayed a prayer written in Spanish that he could read. I don't think that we would receive the same reception in the states, emphasizing the true hunger and thirst for God here in this country.
All the teams returned for our evening meal here at the hotel, followed by our nightly devotional. David Boyer challenged each of us in our last few days here to look beyond our comfort zone to experience all that we can while here in this country, to reach out and get to know one another on a deeper level. The bonds of friendship and brother and sisterhood are being forged by our shared experiences of service. We all are learning that in order to obey God, you need to take risks.
The adventurous of our group traveled two blocks from the hotel and played indoor soccer for 2 hours. There was also a large group that went to cheer on and watch as spectators. Great fun was had by all and a weary, somewhat banged up group of soccer players returned to their beds to get ready for another day.
My next update will probably be tomorrow morning again. As you can see, I am much more a morning person and there truly is not much energy left by the end of the day. Many pictures are being taken, but only Tonia has the ability to download her pictures to the computer. Tonia became the next victim of the bug going around so she has been out of commission for the last couple of days at the worksites to take pictures that can be posted. I have my camera with me at every site, but just don't have the time to dig it out of the backpack most of the time. We have such limited time to complete a house before we have to get off the mountain, so the work becomes a frantic-paced activity as the clock ticks down to quitting time. Everyone so desperately wants to finsh their home so the family can sleep in it that night. For the most part, most of the homes have been completed the same day. Occasionally, building obstacles have prevented that goal, so a finishing crew will return to sites the following day to complete anything that did not get finished.
We have not returned to the internet cafe for the group to write their emails or been able to pass the journal around to post messages back home. Our days start early and end very late. Please know that we all are fine, some of us are having to fight off colds and the unlucky few with the dreaded stomach bug. Eveyone is being taken care of and we will try our best to post messages to home tonight.

Great Works Accomplished Yesterday
There were many groups that set out yesterday to accomplish the Lord's work here in Honduras. 3 new homes were completed, our floor crew worked diligently trying to complete the tile floor in an existing home that was built previously with no floor, and a large group traveled to the Special Needs orphanage to visit and share lunch with the children and then to return to prepare family bags of food for distribution. These bags contain about 2 weeks worth of basic staples such as flour, rice, beans, bouillon, coffee, salt and sugar. Amazing acts of kindness are occuring daily, growth and leadership are being demonstrated in our teens and we all will be better, stronger and more committed by this journey. We ended our day, like we always do, with a devotional led by Chris Stewart last night, who helped us to reflect on the difficulties we experience lugging lumber to sites on steep slopes and reminding us of what Christ endured while carrying his cross to his crucifixion. When we remember the sacrifice that Jesus made on our behalf so that we may have eternal life, the struggles we experience here seem so minor, and we are able to find that extra bit of energy needed to keep going to complete the task before us. We are uplifted by your prayers and keep you in ours as well.

Hi everyone! Crystal went home on Sunday because her Chrones flared up. I am sad. I finally got better from the last bug I had and then last night I got a new one. I was really sick and I had to stay at the hotel again. I was not allowed to go to the hospital. I am feeling better and hopefully tomorrow I can work again. a night on the mountain
Last night it rained and made me think quite a bit about the conditions here and the work that we do.....
The current count is 18 homes that have been completed, around 8 to 12 people per family (believe it or not!) and so I could not help but rejoice in the fact that around 150 people did not have to sleep in the rain!!!
If that is not Gods work, I dont know what it is.......
Lord thank you so much for the energy to carry on! your encouragement is visible here on the accomplishments of our group and the smiles of the honduran nation.

Before I came to Honduras, one of the kids here, had emailed and told me that it was raining very bad every day.....God has managed to circle the rain around our schedule and I am so very happy for that.
Who but God has the power to stop or delay the rain, who but God has the power to keep us going, who but God has the power to bring people here and give hope to this land??? Surely His love is so amazing and His power so great and wonderful!!!

Glorious Day in Honduras!
Hola and Buenos Dias from Honduras. We have had a very productive and satisfying day in Honduras. First, to give you a quick update on yesterday's events: After breakfast, we loaded the bus and headed up the mountain to Union for worship services with the congregation in Union to celebrate the 5 year anniversay of the Union congregation. The worship service was in both Spanish and English and was jointly lead by our Honduran brothers and mission group brothers. Each group sang songs to each other and there was no doubt the we were worshiping God in spirit with our voices in both languages. Cary Hadley provided the sermon by speaking first in Spanish and then in English so we all could follow and understand the message. What a gifted speaker and talent this man has been given. We all were so touched to hear the familiar passage from Matthew instructing us to serve the poor as Jesus instructed us to do. This message could not have hit home more poignantly while sitting next to our brethen who represent the poorest of the poor. Cary so aptly reassured everyone of our ultimate reward, how we will all be united in Christ someday with no cultural, socio-economic, racial or language barriers. To say we were blessed does not begin to describe the overwhelming emotions we all experienced. The group than traveled downtown for a quick fast food lunch and then the majority of the group traveled to the Valley of Angels for shopping. The shopping group returned to the hotel and the entire group road by bus (all transportation takes place via 2 school buses) to a new mall to eat at the food court. We returned to the hotel for our nightly devotional and to bed to get ready for a new day.
Today there were many activities to choose from and something for everyone. There were 2 construction groups to either finish up houses that were not complete or to start work on new construction. Another group traveled to Mololoa to work in the kitchen and prepare food for 150 school children in this community. Also in this community, a group of workers worked very hard digging a trench for a water pipe to provide water to the village and also the church. Another group in this same community continued a second day of back breaking trench digging for a footer for a daycare. Image having to use picks to break up rock and then shoveling loads of dirt to dig a 5 foot wide and 5 foot deep trench. I know for you construction types, this doesn't sound like anything like a footer (those digging thought the same thing). There was a group of workers that travled to the local hospital to visit with the children. There is such limited caregiving available for the sick children of Honduras. A parent must stay with their children because of the lack of nurses available. The group distributed juice boxes, crackers, stuffed animals and spent time praying with each child and family member. Our awesome teens said prayers with the families (some of our teens said prayers in Spanish - yes, something has been retained from all that Spanish in school!) Although it was a very emotion packed experience and day, they have learned that by focusing on the needs of others, their own needs diminished by comparison. The final group went to the church in Union to dispense vitamins and over the counter medicine. The line was quite lengthy by the time the bus arrived, emphasing the true need of the families on this mountain. The construction crew completed 5 homes today. We all returned tired but satisfied that in some small way, we provided and helped to serve the people of Honduras. There is nothing like the happiness and joy we have received by serving those here in this place. Adios and buenas noches.

It is crazy busy here most of the time- yesterday instead of going to Valley of Angels after church and lunch me and a few others who did not want to spend the 45 minute one way, winding road mountain ride to buy junk- i mean souvenirs for our loved ones- that would be you guys.... sorry!!! Came back to the hotel to relax, as much as you can living on the busiest corner, by that i mean noisiest!!! but still Suzanne and i and some others managed about an hour nap. So no souveniers for you! We have had an amazing time- it is impossible to describe how hard these kids are working- adults too. The joy we see in their faces and those of the kids they are spending time with is incredible. Even if they take a break for a 5 minute lunch- they are playing with the kids and sharing their food, or becoming a life size jungle gym. Then back to work they go.
Please give Nicholas, Alex, and my sweet Lexie lu lol a big, big hug and kiss from me. I miss them all so much- but i do have some pictures on my camera of them that i can look at. My plan is to pick them up after lunch!!!! I am craving salads-that is something i just don't trust here. Pappas' will be seeing me on Monday, anyone for lunch? I am so excited to hear that Allie came to church. Please let him know i love and miss him and am so proud of him. You guys are a big encouragement to him. Don't forget to keep checking the pictures.

To all the families of our new kids, they have caught on so well, worked so hard, and haven fallen right in with the rest of the group. Everyone is getting along remarkably and we are blessed that you allowed them to join us.
So you realize, we are still waiting for the bus- we got the clothes packed up pretty quick- an amazing job done by the churches at home in organizing the duffels of stuff. The group going to the hospital will be me, Tom S., Trey, Matt, Johnny, Alex, Caitlin, Sammi, Andy, Cory, Kate, Hayden, Heidi, Chris St, Chris T. and our fearless leader, Cary.

To all the families of our new kids, they have caught on so well, worked so hard, and haven fallen right in with the rest of the group. Everyone is getting along remarkably and we are blessed that you allowed them to join us.
So you realize, we are still waiting for the bus- we got the clothes packed up pretty quick- an amazing job done by the churches at home in organizing the duffels of stuff. The group going to the hospital will be me, Tom S., Trey, Matt, Johnny, Alex, Caitlin, Sammi, Andy, Cory, Kate, Hayden, Heidi, Chris St, Chris T. and our fearless leader, Cary.

Just a quick update to let you know we are all good! We have a few down with a stomach bug, but they come and go pretty quickly. Today a group of 15 is going to the hospital- they also bagged up all the clothes this morning. I am typing this as we are waiting for the bus to come back from the mountain to pick us up. The others have gone to Union (i found out yesterday that the full name of the mountain means unity and strength- Union y Fuerza- Union for short!! Cary did another amazing job preaching in both Spanish and English. The five year anniversary for this church-beautiful day, lots of emotion from all (even Bob M- if you NW people can believe that :) I will have someone write more details later!!
The other groups today went to the kitchen to feed the kids, dig more ditches!! they say we are digging footers but the digging they are doing is crazy, more houses to finish, start, and floor. The sun is shining bright today- we had a bit of rain on Saturday- everyone came off the mountain wet and dirty! We love and miss you all..

sunday evening quick update
Hello Everyone,
Just wanted to give a quick update. The internet has been done all day at the hotel so we were unable to access the comments. We are at dinner right now in a new mall and I ran down to the internet cafe to check the blog. I don't have much time and have no idea how much this is costing me so let me make it quick. The 5th anniversary service at the church in Union was amazing. We hung around for about 30 minutes after service for fellowship with the Honduran people and our kids really seemed to enjoy interacting with the little kids. I know we keep repeating ourselves, but I just have to let everyone know what a wonderful group of adults and kids we have on this trip. We are truly blessed. To have 4 (and Kyle from Holly Hill) youth groups work together so well is amazing. I think we have made life long friendships. Ok I need to go but Mari Catherine wants me to let her family know she misses them and loves them and is having a great time. (although the pink purse she just bought turned her favorite pair of jeans pink)Chris Tallman would like his parents to know that he loves them and misses them and is having a great time with his new friends because his sister blew him off for Cory! The rest of the group are in the food court.

Friday update
Hi Everyone, This is Cindy Bonk and it is Saturday morning, we wanted to update you on what all we did yesterday. Two groups went to Monaloa (probably spelled wrong) One group worked in the kitchen serving lunch. This is called Project Manna where they feed apx. 150 children lunch everyday. Our wonderful crew prepared food, served food, cleaned up, washed dishes, hauled trash and played, played, played and played some more with the kids. The other group went up the mountain and I mean UP, the slightly out of shape ones in our group thought we were going to die, once they were up the mountain they began to dig a HUGE trench for a wall. These kids and adults were unreal in how hard they worked and dug. I don't want to mention any names because I do not want to miss anyone. But, I can tell you that every group is a cross section of all congregations represented and EVERYONE especially parents should be SOOOOOOO proud of your children. They may not clean their rooms, but they are working like crazy here. The other group went to Union and worked on another three homes and another day of VBS. Everyone was really tired last night, but we enjoyed a night out at the mall. Some of you may have gotten a phone call from your child, if they were able to get in. This is a wonderful group and everyone is having an amazing time. This morning (Saturday) we have most of the group at Union building another 3 or 4 homes. I can tell you from what I have seen you can not imagine the gratitude these people have for this little house that is built for them. One lady went and bought our workers a couple of large soda bottles and when we were finished building stood in the door way with her arms raised to heaven and said mucho mucho gracias. (thank you very very much). She kept saying this and the look on her face was priceless. Another family slept by their lumber and told us that they prayed that it would not rain on them. They said that God answered their prayers. The people in Honduras are loving, and generous, just like the lady with the soda, that was a huge thing for her to do. They want so badly to give to us and show us their appreciation. We are actually the ones that are receiving blessings from this trip. A group of us are at the hotel sorting vitamins and clothes for distrubition next week. We are looking forward to a cookout on the balcony of the hotel tonight and then to Baxter to play soccer. We miss you all and love receiving your messages. Our newcomers are doing great!!!
